How to Select the Best Affiliate Marketing Verticals?

Being a successful affiliate marketer is a 24/7 job.

Setting up and optimizing campaigns is just a part of it. Following the industry’s trends, analyzing competition and your own performance is equally important. It all gives you the knowledge necessary to choose offers which are attractive at particular times of the year.

To select the best affiliate marketing verticals for the second quarter of 2021, let’s analyze what’s trending at the moment (from Zeropark’s clients’ point of view), let’s have a look at historical data and check out the biggest (read: potentially profitable) upcoming events.

As push notification ads are always hot so I’ll stick to that kind of ad format to present types of offers that are radically popular at the moment.

When it comes to recent trends in push, there are at least a couple of verticals standing out from the rest. Those best-converting ones are lead generation, antivirus offers, survey and sweeps (including vouchers), dating, casino and gambling (including sports betting) and finance (including insurance, loans, real estate, investing).

The first two weeks of April are still a tremendous opportunity to make money on the US tax season. You can read more about that here.

Even though the above-listed trends are based on January to March performances, they aren’t going to change drastically overnight and should be a safe choice also in Q2 and beyond.

Carl Edward Sagan, the famous American astronomer, and science popularizer used to say that “you have to know the past to understand the present”. The same applies to affiliate marketing.

Trying to predict what will make the industry hot in the next couple of months, first, take a look at the top converting verticals from the second quarter of the last two years (redirect traffic only).

Q2 2018:

  1. Adult
  2. Antivirus
  3. Lead generation

Q2 2019:

  1. Downloads
  2. Shopping and travel booking sites
  3. Survey and sweeps

Q2 2020:

  1. Lead Generation
  2. Downloads
  3. Antivirus

There aren’t significant changes between the hottest verticals of 2018 and 2020. And it’s totally understandable, for even in such a fast-changing business environment as affiliate marketing, if some have proved to work, they continue to work.  Therefore we’ll concentrate on these.

As we can see, downloads, lead generation, and shopping site campaigns tend to make a lot of profits in Q2. Further analyses show that the number of conversions went up noticeably (comparing to Q1/2020). What is more, they performed great also in Q3.

Surveys and sweeps took the final place on the podium. It’s not a coincidence. It’s been one of the best-converting verticals in Zeropark for a while and a safe choice (like e.g. downloads) for our clients.

Calendar of Affiliate Marketing Offers to Promote in Q2

Wise affiliate marketers perfectly know that they need to seize any opportunities to outperform their competitors and catch their potential clients attention just in time. They know it’s crucial to make an offer that fulfills their needs and dreams just when they think about one.

To get that knowledge you can buy yourself a black cat and a crystal ball or… just check your calendar. You don’t need a supernatural affiliate sixth sense to figure out that in every Q4 people will spend money on e-commerce during Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the holiday season, right?

Well, it’s not so obvious to observe in Q2, but still doable.

In April, “Happy Easter” may have a double meaning for affiliates with perfectly crafted e-commerce and travel offers. It’s time when lots of customers not only go shopping but also come back home to their family and friends – or skip traditional holidays flying for a couple of days to the sunny beaches.

E-commerce Opportunities to Boost Your Affiliate Efforts

Moving to May and June there are at least a couple of sports events worth marking red in every affiliate calendar – UEFA Europa League and Champions League finals, the Stanley Cup and NBA finals are just a sample of opportunities for sports betting campaigns with huge marketing potential.

During Q2 there will be also some e-commerce events you should pay attention to.

Memorial Day is a federal American holiday established to remember and honor those who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It’s an annual holiday celebrated on the last Monday of May (this year – May 27th). It’s also a massive… e-commerce event with lots of special offers e.g. for clothes and home appliance deals.

Talking about shopping sprees. Do you know when statistical parents get gifts from their children? According to Google Trends, there are two major occasions apart from birthdays – Christmas and Mother’s/Father’s Day.

Yep, you’re right, only X-mas is not in Q2. I think you know what to do about it.
