Affiliate Marketing Tools for Campaign Planning: How to Stop Guessing and Start Scaling

Magdalena Bober

Finding the golden goose of affiliate marketing campaigns can be a stroke of luck, or it can take hours and days of painstaking research. Traffic comes in waves. Some trends are easy to predict, already marked on every media buyer's calendar as the year starts. Others seem to appear out of nowhere.

The good news: the affiliate marketing industry takes planning seriously. Google has its keyword planner, Meta has its analytics suite, and every traffic source out there boasts about its tracking tools. But most of these are built for search or social, not for pop and domain redirect traffic.

Read on to learn about the tools already available to affiliates, the optimization tactics worth knowing, and how Zeropark's new Tools Tab makes planning faster and easier.

Why Campaign Planning Tools Matter in Digital Marketing

Experienced performance marketers know that starting from scratch is sometimes necessary. However, why do it, when you can start from the point of in-platform research? Picking the wrong vertical, targeting the wrong GEO, or building a whitelist from scratch without data — these decisions cost money before a single ad is served.

Campaign planning tools exist to reduce that risk. They give advertisers access to data — keyword ideas, search volume, audience insights, traffic estimates — before they commit budget. The result is faster decisions, better campaign performance, and fewer dollars burned on assumptions.

Performance marketing tools that track clicks, conversions, and cost per acquisition are no longer enough. Effective campaign management now requires something earlier in the process: intelligence that shapes the campaign before it launches. Measurable outcomes start with measurable inputs.

The biggest advertising networks understood this early. Here's what they built.

The Planning & Keyword Research Tools You Know From the Biggest Advertising Networks

Google, Meta, and Microsoft each offer native campaign planning tools built into their advertising platforms. These tools give advertisers access to keyword research, audience data, and volume forecasts — all before a campaign goes live. They're built for search and social, but they set the standard for what in-platform planning intelligence looks like.

Google Ads is the largest digital advertising platform in the world and often the top choice for amongst paid marketing strategies for businesses of all sizes. It comes with three dedicated planning tools built directly into the Google Ads account interface.

Google Keyword Planner

Google Keyword Planner is the default starting point for keyword research across search engines. It's free with any Google Ads account.

The tool has two core functions. First, it generates keyword ideas from a seed term, a landing page URL, or a product category. Second, it forecasts expected clicks, impressions, and conversions for a chosen keyword list. Search volume data updates daily, so forecasts reflect current conditions rather than outdated averages.

For affiliate marketers, it's a useful research layer. Enter a brand name or vertical and get relevant keywords alongside monthly searches, competition level, and suggested bids. It supports keyword research across 190+ countries and integrates with Google Analytics for deeper audience insights.

The limitation is scope. Google Keyword Planner is built around Google Search intent — the terms people type into search engines. It doesn't surface the misspellings, lookalike domains, and keyword variants that generate real traffic in domain redirect campaigns. It won't tell you which of those keyword ideas are available to bid on inside a performance network, what other advertisers are paying for them, or which ones sit untouched with zero competition.

Google Performance Planner

Performance Planner lets advertisers forecast campaign results across different budget scenarios before spending begins. Enter your campaign settings and target metrics, and the tool models expected clicks, conversions, and cost per acquisition across a range of spend levels.

It's most useful for budget allocation decisions — figuring out where to concentrate spend across multiple campaigns to hit a target ROAS or conversion volume. It pulls from aggregated data across Google's ad network to build its forecasts, which makes the estimates more reliable than manual projections.

Google Reach Planner

Reach Planner focuses on video and display campaigns. It forecasts audience reach across YouTube and Google's Display Network based on your target demographic, GEO, and ad format. For affiliate marketers running awareness campaigns, it helps set realistic expectations for how many unique users a given budget will reach before the campaign launches.

Meta Planning Tools

Meta's advertising ecosystem spans Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Audience Network. Its native planning tools are built into Meta Ads Manager and reflect the platform's strength in audience-based targeting and creative intelligence.

Meta Ads Manager

Meta Ads Manager is the central platform for creating, managing, and analysing paid campaigns across Meta's properties. It includes built-in planning features that most advertisers overlook.

The campaign draft mode lets you build entire campaign structures, save them for review, and publish when ready — useful for teams with approval workflows. The performance estimation tool shows expected reach and results before you commit budget, based on your audience definition and historical platform data. Built-in A/B testing lets you split-test audiences, creatives, and placements from inside the same interface.

Meta Audience Insights

Audience Insights provides demographic data and interest targeting suggestions based on your existing page followers and website visitors. It helps you understand who your current audience is before you define who to target in a new campaign — a useful starting point for vertical or GEO expansion decisions.

Meta Ads Library

The Meta Ads Library is a free public database of every active ad running across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Audience Network. No login required. Enter any brand name or keyword and see what competitors are running — creative formats, messaging angles, and how long ads have been in market.

For affiliate marketers, it's a competitive research tool. Ads that have been running for 60–90 days are likely performing — they provide a signal on what messaging and formats are working in your vertical right now.

Meta Advantage+

Advantage+ is Meta's AI-powered campaign type that automates targeting, placements, and creative delivery. Rather than manually defining audience segments, Advantage+ uses machine learning to find the right users based on your campaign objective and conversion signals. It reduces the manual planning burden for targeting decisions and is particularly effective for advertisers with strong conversion data feeding the algorithm.

Microsoft Advertising Planning & Campaign Management Tools

Microsoft Advertising runs on the Bing network, which includes Yahoo and DuckDuckGo — covering roughly 33% of desktop search traffic in the US. Its planning tools mirror Google's in structure but pull from a distinct data set with different audience demographics.

Microsoft Keyword Planner

Microsoft Keyword Planner works similarly to Google's version. Search for new keywords using a phrase, a category, or a page URL. Get search volume data, trends, performance estimates, and cost forecasts for your target markets.

Where it differs is in the audience. Microsoft's search users skew older, higher income, and more likely to make B2B purchasing decisions — which means keyword volume and competition data tell a different story than Google's. For affiliate marketers in finance, insurance, or B2B verticals, Microsoft Keyword Planner often surfaces high-intent keywords with lower competition and lower CPCs than the same research in Google Ads.

It's free with a Microsoft Advertising account and covers all Microsoft Ads-supported markets worldwide.

Microsoft Advertising Intelligence

Microsoft Advertising Intelligence is a free Excel plug-in that extends keyword research beyond the browser interface. It pulls search volume data, performance estimates, and keyword suggestions directly into a spreadsheet — useful for building and analysing large keyword lists without manual data exports.

It includes automatic filters to remove duplicate keywords, brand terms, and adult content from keyword expansion lists, which reduces the cleanup work involved in building a clean targeting set.

Tools Tab: Campaign Planning & Keyword Ideas for Pop and Domain Redirect Traffic

Google, Meta, and Microsoft built their planning tools around search and social traffic. They give advertisers access to keyword ideas, audience data, and budget forecasts — but all of it is built for their own inventory. None of it tells you what's working in pop or domain redirect traffic right now.

That's the gap Zeropark's Tools Tab fills.

Tools Tab is a new section of the Zeropark advertiser panel that brings planning intelligence directly into your campaign workflow. The data is native to the Zeropark platform — it reflects real advertiser activity, real source performance, and real keyword availability inside the network. These are not estimates from a third-party tool, but real, actionable insights that can either help you choose what offer to run next or narrow down your targeting.

What's Trending is Zeropark's answer to Google Trends and TikTok's Creative Center — a live view of which vertical, GEO, and ad format combinations are attracting the most advertiser activity on the platform right now.

The data updates every 12 hours. At the top of the tab, three platform-wide metrics are displayed: total weekly impressions, the average bid across all active campaigns, and the top GEO of the week. Below that, the main table ranks combinations by advertiser activity and shows weekly volume, average bid, and a week-over-week change column.

The WoW column is where the planning value sits. A combination that's up 25% week-over-week in a GEO you haven't tried is a signal worth acting on. A declining combination tells you where to redirect budget. Instead of deciding what to test based on instinct, you see where spend is concentrating — in real time.

Find Your Supply

Find Your Supply is Zeropark's whitelist builder. It replaces the process of asking your account manager for a source list, waiting for a response, and starting campaigns broad while you wait.

In three simple steps, you can select your ad format, vertical, and GEO to receive a list of top traffic sources currently performing for that combination, pre-ranked by volume. Each source shows weekly impressions and an average bid so you know what you're targeting before you spend.

Select the sources you want, then add them to an existing campaign or go straight to campaign creation where the Campaign time will have been pre-selected to source campaign with your sources added automatically. The whole process takes minutes.

If no search results appear for your combination, it means there isn't enough spend data for that setup in the past seven days — in that case, it would be best to turn to a Run-Of-Network campaign to discover the right audience for your campaign.

Keyword Planner

Zeropark's Keyword Planner does for domain redirect campaigns what Google Keyword Planner does for search — with one important difference. Instead of surfacing search terms, it finds misspellings and lookalike domain variants that generate real traffic inside the Zeropark network.

All you need to do is enter the brand URL and the keyword search tool will return a list of targets containing misspellings ranked by similarity score, with total visits and average bid data for each. Every result includes the keyword hash for campaign targeting and the publisher feed hash.

The most valuable results are the ones with a $0.00 average bid. These keywords match your brand or offer but haven't been discovered by other advertisers yet — untapped traffic with low competition and high intent. Testing a batch of these alongside your standard targets is a reliable way to access inventory that hasn't been priced up.

Keyword Planner is in beta while our team works on expanding match type and increasing the number of available domains.

Traffic Calculator

Traffic Calculator lets you forecast available traffic volumes and average bids by GEO, source, keyword, or device before you set up a campaign. It's been available as a standalone tool for years so all we added was a quick way to access it without switching tabs. You can find Zeropark's traffic calculator right here, without the need to sign in to the advertiser panel.

How to Use Tools Tab in Your Campaign Planning Workflow

The four tools in Tools Tab work best when used together at the start of your marketing efforts planning process — before you define your campaign settings, not after.

Start with What's Trending, especially when you're deciding what to test next. Look at the top combinations and the WoW column. A consistently growing vertical + GEO combination is a good starting point when you're on the lookout for trying something new. A negative week on week statistic can also be an indication of whether your optimization is failing or the niche + GEO combo is simply running dry for everyone.

Use Find Your Supply once you've confirmed your vertical, GEO, and format. A curated list of 5 sources helps you save money by limiting the volume of traffic hitting your fresh campaign. While RON campaigns are generally beneficial in discovering exactly what's working for your offer, the time and funds needed to optimize to profitability are much greater.

Run Keyword Planner before setting up a domain redirect campaign. Start with the highest similarity scores for closest matches to your offer. Then move into the lower-scoring results for untapped keywords. Remember that the $0.00 keywords are exactly the right keywords to try as no one has bid on them yet and the similarity score will usually indicate you absolutely should.

Check the Traffic Calculator to glimpse the full potential. While bid suggestions in the other tools are a better starting point, the traffic estimator can be a point of reference for how much it's possible to buy.

Affiliate Campaign Analytic Tools: The Bottom Line

Google Keyword Planner, Meta Ads Manager, and Microsoft Advertising Intelligence all give advertisers intelligence for their own formats. They set the standard for what planning tools should do: surface data before you spend, reduce guesswork, and help you make faster decisions.

Zeropark's Tools Tab brings that same logic to pop and domain redirect traffic. The data is native to Zeropark — it reflects what's actually happening in the network right now, not aggregated estimates from search or social. For performance marketers running these formats, that's the difference between planning with real signals and planning in the dark.

Tools Tab is live now. Find it under Tools in your Zeropark panel.
